Halong Bay, Vietnam.
Postcard from my parents on their World Cruise. They loved this place, and it allures me for a whole host of reasons. I long to experience their culture and immerse myself in the history and gentle grandeur of the temples. The landscape seems so contrasting, yet all with a great connection to nature. And on top of that, dramatic: those limestone peaks are incredible. There’s something about the water too that I wouldn’t call “crystal clear” in a luxurious, Maldives/Seychelles way, but rather beautiful in a genuine, modest way. Or maybe I’m going a bit too far with personification?!
Vietnam fun facts: Although Vietnam is a developing country, it has a literacy rate of 94%.
Instead of bells, traditional gongs are used to call the Vietnamese children to school.
