Where’s the London Love? Part 3: Big Ben

My dad has always told me that St Paul’s Cathedral is his favourite building in London (an architectural beauty I’m sure I’ll include on the blog soon), and from that little nugget of information, it’s sometimes struck me to ask people, “What’s your favourite building in London?”

St Paul’s Cathedral is definitely a popular response. But mine probably has to be Big Ben (and generally the houses of Parliament). Every time I walk by it, or catch a glimpse from the train, I can’t take my eyes off lovely Ben. I don’t even quite know what it is. I think the intricate design and how historical it appears – slightly gothic from a distance – really appeals to me.

Coincidentally, I may call it Big Ben, but that name only refers to the bell – the structure itself is called Elizabeth Tower. Fun fact for you there. I like the idea that it’s both Elizabeth and Ben shacked up together – the most impressive couple in London? …Have I taken this too far yet?

Anyway, I realised that Big Ben is one aspect of London that I never get bored of and never stop appreciating. One of my favourite things is how he’ll be a different hue depending on the time of day.

I’ve even done a couple of selfies with Ben…

No shame.

No shame.

Really though, here’s a couple of nicer pictures where my beauty (ahem) doesn’t steal the limelight…
